Raleigh, North Carolina, December 2012 — Guy Swain, CFP®,CLU, ChFC and Matthew D. Glova, CFP®, CLTC of LifeTime Asset Management in Raleigh, NC, recently attended a national educational conference for independent financial advisors. Hosted by Commonwealth Financial Network® , the nation’s largest privately held independent broker/dealer, the sold-out event drew more than 781 financial professionals from across the nation. Participants gathered in San Antonio, Texas, November 2–5, 2012, where they heard from industry experts, networked with colleagues, and examined opportunities and challenges in the current market in an effort to provide continued leadership to investors.

The conference theme, State of Independence, encouraged attendees to channel their own independent spirit as inspiration to explore new terrain in their practices and with their clients. James Carville and Mary Matalin, married political consultants who sit on opposite sides of the aisle, were the keynote speakers, offering a lively debate on the current political landscape. Brad McMillan, Commonwealth’s chief investment officer, presented an economic and market update.

The conference provided practical and tactical ways for advisors to enhance their businesses, including educational sessions on a range of topics from regulatory and compliance policies and investment strategies to business management and brand marketing.
