Weekly Market Update, Nov 27, 2023

Durable goods were lower than expected as a drop in aircraft orders led to underlying volatility. Existing home sales remained weak; homeowners who locked in rates below current rate levels have little incentive to sell. Nvidia stock fell despite strong earnings and guidance. Treasuries lifted slightly on the front end because of the FOMC’s higher-for-longer rate stance.

Weekly Market Update, Nov 20, 2023

Consumer and producer inflation showed smaller-than-expected increases in October. Housing starts and building permits were higher than expected despite waning home builder sentiment.  Small-caps and international equities found a reprieve in lower inflation reports. Treasuries continued their rally from mid-October.

Weekly Market Update, Nov 6, 2023

The Fed kept rates unchanged, as was widely expected. The committee will remain data dependent in future meetings. Employment and IS M services were weaker than expected. Recently beaten down areas of the equity market, such as small-caps and real estate, rallied sharply. Intermediate and long-term bonds rallied sharply as the Fed paused rates for a second consecutive meeting, indicating it has made progress in battling inflation.
